Bats Serving all of Vermont & New Hampshire

Wildlife Services: Bats

Vermont is home to 9 different bat species and 3 of those are listed as endangered. Bats will start to hibernate in the late fall October/November through mid-April. They can be sometimes found in homes/buildings during summer months when the females will give birth and raise their young. Mating season in VT is typically in mid to late fall. Bats can carry the rabies disease and can transmit it through their saliva, so it is not recommended to touch a bat with your bare hands. Bats groom themselves which can transfer when touched if you have wounds or abrasions.
